Overview

Digital transformation of outpatient care

Medefer was designed to rethink the traditional NHS outpatient model through digital transformation. Medefer’s virtual referral platform enables GP referrals to be securely reviewed by NHS consultants within 48 hours - accelerating triage, improving communication, and reducing unnecessary hospital visits. The platform not only shortens waiting times but also eases the strain on hospitals by handling referrals more intelligently, allowing patients to receive care faster and specialists to focus their time more effectively.

Role

As the first designer at Medefer, I was responsible for defining the product vision and leading design across multiple initiatives, while also driving product strategy, stakeholder engagement, and delivery in a dual product/design role. I led the end-to-end UX strategy for an award-winning virtual outpatient platform — translating ideas into user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes. Acting as the bridge between stakeholders and development, I ensured alignment between clinical needs and business objectives.

I also introduced agile design workflows to improve collaboration and reduce delivery costs, launched an organisation-wide employee engagement programme, and led the redesign of Medefer’s core NHS data collection product. Additionally, I contributed to a £10m+ telemedicine initiative supporting remote management of chronic conditions.
